We arrived at the parking lot and climbed out of the car. The few humans within the parking lot noticed Aylovre, their eyes widening in curiosity. I could tell he was nervous, so I instinctively grabbed his hand, letting him know it was okay.

He looked down at our entwined hands in shock but didn’t say anything. I smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry, you have me.”

As we entered the store, the bright lights shone down on us, making the colorful displays even more vibrant. I guided him to the produce section, and he jerked forward, his eyes wild and face bright with amazement at the selection.

“Wow, Kim! I’ve never seen so many different fruits and vegetables in one place,” he exclaimed, his enthusiasm contagious.

I chuckled, enjoying his excitement. “Well, Earth has quite a variety, and this store tries to offer a good selection.”

Aylovre couldn’t help himself. He reached out and touched the various produce items, taking in their unique textures and scents. I watched him, my heart swelling with affection. It was endearing to see him so fascinated by something I took for granted every day.

Aylovre continued to ask questions about the different fruits and vegetables as we wandered through the produce section. I found myself explaining their uses and tastes, happy to share my knowledge with him.

“What is this one?” he asked, holding up a spiky fruit.

“That’s a durian. It’s known for its strong smell, but the taste is actually quite creamy and sweet,” I explained. “The flavor is like tasting cheese, almonds, garlic, and caramel all at once.”

His curiosity only grew as we filled our cart with an assortment of colorful fruits and vegetables. Soon, the cart was overflowing with items he wanted to try, leaving little space for the groceries I usually bought for myself.

Aylovre glanced at the cart, his cheeks turning a shade of green in embarrassment. “I’m sorry, Kim. I didn’t realize I took up so much space. I should have left room for your items.”

I smiled and shook my head. “Don’t worry about it. When we get back, I can place an order for anything we couldn’t get here. It’s not an issue, and I’m glad you found so many things you want to try. That’s what this trip was for.”

His eyes lit up with gratitude, and he reached out to gently squeeze my hand. “Thank you, Kim. You’re so kind and understanding. I promise to make it up to you.”

I laughed and told him, “You keep saying that, and it might just become true.”

We proceeded to the checkout lane, our cart full of groceries. The automatic cashier manager had a pair of cat ears perched on top of her head. She greeted us with a warm smile, her eyes flicking between me and Aylovre.

“Where did you find this handsome fellow?” she asked, clearly intrigued.

I chuckled and replied, “We were matched on Rent-An-Alien.”

“Is that some kind of alien dating app?” she inquired, her eyes gleaming with curiosity.

I shook my head. “I guess it could be, but I was told it’s an app for requesting assistance with tasks.
